My computer has finally died on my after a prolonged illness. Hence the combined week blog. I have now got a new computer and we back on track!
We have also had our first holiday in between week 4 and 5.
Wahoo!!! Boy did I need it! LOL
We continued with Bible study, the boys learned about the importance of work and why we all have rules to follow.
English is going really well and the kids are progressing in all areas. Daniel especially in his handwriting. Not bad for a 1st grader!!
These were Danny's readers for the last two weeks.
And Kaydens.
In History we continued exploring Ancient Egypt, the boys learned about mummies and pyramids.
We also watched a movie called "Exploring ancient Egypt".
In Science we are still covering the 1st day on creation (Light). The boys learned about the eye and how it works. They also learned about light transition and what effect transparent things have on light. We did really interesting experiments this week. Even I was amazed!
In Geography we finalised our continents and oceans study and began taking our tip around the world, visiting individual countries.
They also completed their Continents and Oceans Lapbook.
We continue on with mapping skills, the boys learned about the compass rose, and practiced their map directions on worksheets.
Then it was time to hand out the Passports!!!!!! Our first destination is Australia!! It was very exciting. The boys stuck in the Australian flag into their passports and wrote in an entrance date.
We looked at the Australian Capitol, and some major landmarks, read about Uluru and briefly had a chat about the Great Barrier Reef (We will do a week long study section on the Great Barrier Reef a little later on). Of course we placed ourselves on the map too.
In Art we had a look at ways that artist communicate a message. We chatted about Pieter Bruegel the Elders "The Peasant Wedding"
In week 4 we also had a fantastic opportunity for the boys to try out Circus skills with the other homeschooled kids. Loads of fun and giggles. ;-)
Here is a short edited taste. LOL
We also visited the Qld Science Centre and attended the Rescue workshop.
During the Rescue Workshop the boys had opportunities to escape a smoke filled house, fly a simulated rescue helicopter, pluck drowning people out of the ocean on jet skies and much much more!
They enjoyed the different scenarios and rescue situations. But news anchors! I think they should give it a miss LOL
We practices making different knots.
The life raft was absolutely of the favourites for the kids, they loved messing around in it.
The smoked filled room was fun, and they kids kept going back for more. I think the point is to escape and STAY OUT!
Helicopter simulator
See rescue, here we come!!
At the Science Centre we spent hours wondering around and trying out all the hands on activities. It was amazing, we will definitely do that again :-)
Massive plasma ball, the boys felt like super heroes
Daniel playing with a motor
Tornados, well whirlpools really! This was Kayden favourite thing. He stared at it for ages
Nonna and Grandpa Thomas having a bit of fun
You have to love optical illusion! We thought that this one was particularly good :-)
Such a fun few weeks, but I have to admit - EXHAUSTING! lol
all worth it! ;-)
